Since April of 2025 I had been <48 cop/ml. I have never missed an injection or appointment, however at my last injection day we ran the test again and now I’m up at 65 cop/ml. I don’t understand why my numbers are going back up anyone have any ideas what may be happening?
Hi I'm not familiar with the shots. I'm on Odefsey and I've been undetectable for many years.
This is totally normal, it's called a BLIP.
An HIV viral blip is a short, temporary increase in the amount of the virus found in the blood (viral load) for a person whose treatment has otherwise kept them at undetectable levels. These single, low-level test results typically stay below 200 copies/mL and usually return to undetectable on the next test.
What Causes a Blip Test variations:
Minor technical differences or random statistical variations in lab equipment.
Immune response: A recent vaccine, flu, or other common infection can briefly activate the immune system.
Cell activity: A small, natural release of virus from the body's resting viral reservoirs.
What a Blip Does Not Mean Not treatment failure: An isolated blip does not mean your current medicines have stopped working. Not a loss of protection:
Low-level single blips under 200 copies/mL do not mean you can pass the virus to a partner (maintaining the "Undetectable = Untransmissible" or U=U standard). No immediate changes needed: Doctors generally do not switch medications or change treatment plans based on a single isolated blip.
*If your Dr says nothing, it's normal. The ID staff goes over your labs and flag anything abnormal - those clients are reached out to. As long as your viral load stays under 200 the clinic won't bring it up.
Its a blip for now. But I'd be prepared to make some decisions on my next appointment if they are not ticking back up.
Numbers do fluctuate - try not to fixate on it and keep an open line of communication with your dr - your Dr will alert you to any concerns
That is all i care about as well my viral load.
