Be candid about a classic piece of advice ("don't overthink it," "take a break," "be kind to yourself") that you give easily but rarely practice.

There are quite a few things I tell others, but I have the hardest time following myself. I literally just told someone yesterday that they have to stop being so hard on themselves and to look at how far they've come, but I'm hypocritical because I definitely don't believe that for myself. I'll admit, I'm extremely, extremely hard on myself and for some reason, refuse to show myself any grace.

What a great question to reflect on! "Be kind to yourself" is probably the advice most people hand out freely but rarely practice — and it's especially relevant when living with HIV.

It's so easy to be your own harshest critic. Many myHIVteam members have shared this same struggle, with one noting: "It's funny how we get mad at people for being hard on themselves but we are even harder on ourselves." Mindfulness experts suggest a few small ways to actually practice self-kindness when you catch yourself being critical:

- Notice the judgment — just becoming aware of it is a powerful first step
- Ask yourself where it's coming from — sometimes it helps to understand the root
- Acknowledge the struggle out loud — even saying "this is really hard right now" can ease the weight
- Treat yourself like a friend — would you speak to someone you love the way you speak to yourself?

The good news? Recognizing the gap between the advice you give and what you practice IS the beginning of change. As one myHIVteam member beautifully put it — "the me I'm working on now will be stronger and greater than I've ever been."

We all have advices we love to give but if we're honest, few of us follow our own advice.
The truth is that the most common advices we give are often the hardest to live by eg; 1"Just be yourself and don't compare yourself to others" but the one thing we do everyday is scroll and compare.
2. Save money for later
3. Get enough rest.
