If anyone can help me I went to my doctor due to kidney issues and they did bloodwork and I’m unsure what all was tested but I received an email saying I had a letter from the lab my bloodwork was sent to and I am horrified to open the letter on the portal. I know I need to be tested haven’t done so in a long time due to embarrassment and shame and the stigma please help
Your family doctor or the health department can easily and confidentially test for HIV whenever you are ready. There is no shame in getting tested, and a positive status has nothing to do with outdated stigmas or judgments; people can contract it through many unexpected circumstances beyond their control, from a partner's infidelity to rare accidental exposures or medical oversights. Taking care of your health is a positive, empowering choice, and modern care ensures you are supported every step of the way.
In Illinois, they don't test for HIV unless you ask them or if you have obvious symptoms. You should be fine opening up that email. Unless GA does things differently. You can always pick up an HIV test at walgreens. Or have instacart pick it up like I do.
I’m also scared that if positive my viral load it has been a long time since testing
First, take a breath. The fear and anxiety you're feeling right now is completely understandable, and you are absolutely not alone in this. Many people feel exactly the same way — the shame and stigma around HIV testing is real, but please know that reaching out like this takes real courage.
