Share a realization about human nature, limits on energy, or letting go of control that was tough to swallow but ultimately freeing.
Mention an old grudge, an unrealistic expectation, or an old habit you are actively working on releasing.

Members opened up about personal truths they had to accept the hard way, touching on addiction, relationships, family estrangement, and the pain of hiding inner struggles from the world. Several members shared powerful turning points, including overcoming cocaine dependency without rehab, leaving an alcoholic spouse to reclaim their sense of self, and rebuilding life after losing a home by leaning on a small but deeply caring community. A recurring theme was that real freedom came from accepting hard realities, whether letting go of someone who would never change or learning that temporary escapes are not solutions, and that support from others can make all the difference.

@A myHIVteam Member.....

Well after letting the mortgage company take the house I moved on .

( ok I got the hell outta dodge. ) .....

Now being stuck with no place to go my social worker got herself involved in my conundrum and found a charity that was willing to take me on as a client based on my previous drug use history ....

The charity paid to have me moved then paid the deposit and first months rent for me ......

Well here I am 5 years later with an extended extended family 😀...

There are just 4 apartments in the " complex " but we take care of each other like family ....

One woman is wheel chair bound so I roll her trash bin to the curb ( but that's in exchange for adding my usual 1 bag to the pile ( yeppers nothing like a quid pro quo deal to make life easier ) ....

Then we have Madea who is the latest resident who works paft time for the real estate company that leases the apartments ....

Then we have the longest standing residents who have been living here about 20 years who are like momma and daddy to the rest of us ( even they are younger than everyone else 🙄 .)

Since I let my car go back earlier this year because I could not afford payments insurance and needed repairs well it had to go ....

The man retired from the research hospital last year after putting in his 40 years so he too stays pretty close go home ...
As long as we coordinate schedules he will take me to the grocery store ( but in exchange for his service I usually give him a pint of Hennesy or the smallest 2 amounts of the gift cards I get with my monthly food box from the aso ......

Oh BTW Mazel-tov on completing your divinity training and becoming a full fledged minister :) !

Yeppers your correct methinks in your assertion of a zebra not changing it's stripes....

I mean once someone shows their true colors it's either time to cut bait and get away or learn to suffer because they are not likely to change without something drastic happening ...

So if you got away and learned to live your own life of happiness Mazel-tov for taking charge of things and doing what waz best for you !

That my husband was an alcoholic asshole and was never going to grow up, or treat me right. I needed to leave him to feel like myself again. Waiting around forever for someone else to change is not something I'll do again. Learning to believe someone else's actions and not their words..

A truth I had to learn the hard way waz that I did not need cocaine to be happy ....

I nearly bankrupted us because I was depressed and doing a gram a day while producing no income ......

After I emerged from dementia in just over 6 months instead of the predicted 16 to 18 months that wax foretold .

I realized that even tho husband was absent most of the time ( he was a long haul trucker ) that his love did not faulter as I thought it had when I got depressed about being in another city working for no income......

After husband got my diagnosis of A8s in late 2000 did he throw up his hands and walk away No ...

He doubled up on his effort to see that " I get my baby back to normal ".....

Well I conquered my demon without having to go thru rehab but did leave those who did not stand by me and help me get clean behind !

Now I will admit that I have slid back a time or three but realized that coke was just a temporary escape not a solution....

That the smile I put on my face, the
Forced laugh or the nod of the head for a greeting. It’s all a front for me because inside I don’t want anyone to see my pain. I’m a #########, *******,%%%%%%% and a jackass to boot. I can’t even tell y’all because I need to keep that hidden from the world. Thank you
