Members responded warmly to a question about what to expect when starting ART, with many sharing that side effects are common early on but often taper off after the first month as the body adjusts. Several members emphasized the importance of taking medication consistently at the same time each day, being gentle with yourself if you occasionally miss a dose, and getting regular lab work done to stay on top of your overall health. A recurring theme was that every body is different, and staying in close contact with your doctor is key to finding the right treatment and managing any changes along the way.

Hi, the best thing you can do is start small, stick to your treatment day by day, and that's why it's important that if you find anything out of the ordinary, always consult your doctor. They might have other illnesses. Cholesterol, blood pressure, and other factors depend on each person's body. In my case, I've had my medication changed three times because even though my viral load was undetectable, my body was telling me otherwise. It's important, according to your health center, to have complete tests done to know how you're doing, and to have a lot of willpower! In my country, what affects me most due to the changing weather are the flu, which is constantly spreading. However, I try to be as careful as possible when these weather patterns arrive!

Biktarvy isn't the only one. Sometimes it seems that way as it has become the default treatment. But not all of us tolerate tenofovir (one of the ingredients) very well. There are excellent options.

you will DEFINATELY have side effects for at least the first month, then they should taper off, unless the doctor thinks they are too severe. Even while on the medication, until your immune system gets stronger, you are risk for ANY potential illness.
Not trying to frighten you, but those are the cold facts. plain and simple.
I would suggest 2 books for you
book 1) https://www.amazon.com/First-Year-Essential-Gui...
book 2) https://www.amazon.com/Living-HIV-Patients-Mcfa...

Adding to @A myHIVteam Member, when you're occasionally late on your dose, be gentle with yourself. I give myself an hour wiggle room in my dose time which, at least as reflected in my labs, appears to not be an issue. When I truly eff up and I'm 6 hours late, I take the dose but then dose sensibly to get back on track. We're only accountable to ourselves, and we will lose track of time occasionally.
