What medications are your doctor's recommending? I really don't want to take a Statin but she said it's really the only option.

I started statins about a year ago, and I haven't had any side effects. As you're aware, it's your decision to make, not your doctor's, but I recommend relying on research (regarding both benefits and side effects), not antidotal evidence. Perhaps you could start with a statin and discontinue it (or switch meds/dosage) if it causes you problems (but of course, ask your doctor...some meds are easier to discontinue than others).
I started the water soluble Statin called Rosuvastatin last January. There are no side effects in my case. Water soluble Statins often have no side effects, the previous Statin I could not tolorate was called Atorvastatin.
I had a heart attack at 39 and have been put on all sorts of cardiology meds since, after I learned that we are more susceptible to having cardiology issues. I have noticed zero side effects from my heart meds which now I'm on 4 of them, I think forever..

Like you I'm extremely careful about my diet making sure that I ingest fruits and greens and fish and chicken and meat. So I don't think we have to worry about gout. As far as my joints are concerned I've had problems with that for a while so it's nothing new. But I do take turmeric and vitamin D3. I haven't felt any differently since I started about a year ago and my levels are now low and back to normal.
