What One Memory Inspires You To Continue This Fight?

Sometimes events in our lives manage, direct and/or steer us to another path or simply promote an awareness in us, like no other.
Do you have one particular event or memory that always resonates with you?

Members opened up about the deeply personal memories that inspire them to keep living with HIV, sharing stories of loss, love, and resilience that have shaped their journeys. Several members described pivotal moments including a friend's death from AIDS in 1986 that sparked a commitment to advocacy and clinical trials, a mother's fierce determination to keep her child alive that modeled the will to fight, and a partner's passing after 25 years together that forever changed how they see the world. A recurring theme was the transformative power of rock-bottom moments and unconditional love, whether from family, faith, or chosen community, that gave members a reason to survive and thrive even in their darkest hours.

I think the memory in my life that changed the page from self-destructive behavior and a loveless soul to a full-hearted faithful and happy HIV positive gay man was when I found myself sleeping on a floor in a closet of someone that I had just met waiting for my apartment to be finished as the roaches crawled over me and I remember asking God that I would do everything in my power to please him so that I would never ever have to be in a situation like that again. That was 20 years ago.🙏❤️

It's funny how what appears to be the most disastrous of times at the moment ends up being a gift at the end.

Wasn't exactly sure I understood the question at first. After reading the first 2 responses, clearly I have not yet reached my rock bottom.

@A myHIVteam Member What's the matter? You seem quite down and out of sorts. Has something distressing occurred recently? It's important to take action and reach out. Remember, once you're part of this team, your family, and there are many here who care about you, even if we don't know you personally. It sounds like a difficult situation, to say the least. I wish I could offer more help. Ultimately, it's crucial that you take steps to help yourself. Stay engaged here, especially if it's beneficial for you. I included you on my team Jonathan. Aloha!

Trust me no matter how you’re feeling right now it will change it’s not easy trust me. Taking a pill everyday for the rest of your life ,telling or not telling friends and family. Depression ,anxiety . thinking why bother is normal. But remember this disease affects not only you but also your loved ones . And they don’t want you to die.
