Members shared deeply personal views on whether forgiveness is something earned or something given freely for one's own healing, with many agreeing that forgiveness is a gift you give yourself rather than the other person. Several members described letting go of anger and bitterness as a way to break free from the past, noting that you can forgive someone, maintain firm boundaries, and still choose not to forget what happened. A recurring theme was that holding onto resentment keeps you stuck, while releasing it, even without an apology, allows you to move forward and reclaim your peace.

Forgiveness is the gift we give ourselves

Forgiveness is about what you Carry.
You can forgive someone and still choose boundaries just like my own experience.
You can release the bitterness for your own peace without going back to what hurt you.
When you hold on to anger, hurt and bitterness, you are the one who keeps reliving it.
It's like drinking poison and waiting for another person to get sick.
Waiting for them to earn it can keep you stuck in the past, giving it to yourself frees you.
Forgiving doesn't mean what was done to you was okay, it doesn't mean you forgot. It simply means "YOU CHOSE NOT TO CARRY IT FOREVER"

It’s easier to forgive a person. I won’t forget and I may not be friends with that individual but I will always forgive them. I have forgiven some horrible things. A stabbing when I was younger. A gun pulled on me for no valid reason. Even the individual who may have or not known they had the virus. This comes from a spiritual perspective.

Forgiveness is for me not the other person - it breaks the hold an individual can have on us! That doesn’t mean that we necessarily need to forgive directly or mean that I need to invite them over to dinner!

If this person is still willingly infecting others without telling them he has Hiv / Aids and you don't speak up about the fact you could be called implicit in the act of him giving the disease to others ...

Now if you still communicate you need to take advantage of the situation and try to get them to get themselves into health care so they can get to the status of undectable and stop spreading their " gift " ( the term " bug chasers " use ) . and hopefully live a long full life of happiness
