Members shared varied experiences with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), with some noticing modest improvements in energy levels while others felt little difference, and several highlighted practical considerations like switching from weekly injections to daily gel for more consistent hormone levels. Many members discussed important trade-offs and risks, including the body's reduced natural testosterone production over time, potential testicular atrophy, increased prostate cancer risk, and blood thickening, with one member deciding to pause treatment to reassess whether it was truly necessary. A recurring theme was the challenge of balancing potential benefits against side effects in managing overall health, especially when symptoms like low energy can stem from multiple causes including HIV status or aging.

I have been on TRT since 2003 due to a medical condition. I have been on the gel and the shots. It is true that your body eventually stops or reduces producing its own testosterone when on TRT. Eventually your testicles atrophy and shrink. This part I really hate. My understanding is it can increase your risk of prostate issues. A relative of mine had to stop due to his blood getting to thick. It is great to have it if you really need it. That is up to you and your Dr to determine. Having low T can cause low energy but so can many things we deal with.

The only negative I’ve been told (don’t trust here say) is that when you start talking replacement, your body makes less itself. So, id you stop the replacement therapy, your level could then become lower than where you started.

Ask them to check on your next labs.. they don't include testosterone level unless doctor requests. Just tell them you're curious. 👍

I have been on testerone replacement therapy since 1999. First shots now on the gel and yes it makes me feel better and mentally better. I'm not taking it for sexual but it does help with that too. I'm 69 and still functioning. When I got employed it took some doing but now have authorization for a year.

Cancer isn't a guarantee. Just increased incidence suggesting greater exposure. We trade off need vs impact.
