Can A Person Sell Their Unused HIV/AIDS Medication On The Street?
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

My friend's Doctor changed his medicine and now he's no longer taking atripla. He has got to recoup some of this cost and the pharmacy won't buy this back. Is there a legal way he can sell these pills? He's sure someone out there needs them. How much can he get per pill?

Donate any unused HIV meds to your local AIDS foundation. They will make good use of it. Trying to resell these is unethical especially if you did not pay the full cost of the meds and it was paid for through a program like DAP (drug assistance program) that most states in the US have that is available for our community for those who qualify. Do the right thing, Always!

I have heard that you could donate them that might be helpful but as far as selling them, it’s too much trouble.

Most nations, including the United States, make selling prescription medication without a legitimate prescription or a valid license illegal. This is because prescription medications are classified as controlled substances, which means they have a high risk of misuse and dependency.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) control the sale of prescription medications in the United States. The FDA ensures that prescription drugs are safe and effective for their intended purpose. The DEA implements federal rules and regulations governing restricted substances’ manufacturing, distribution, and possession.

It is illegal under federal law to sell prescription medications without a legitimate prescription or a valid license. This involves selling medications acquired illegally, such as via theft, fraud, or coercion.

Illegal manufacturing of prescription drugs is a more severe crime than selling prescription medications without a legitimate prescription. This is the production of prescription pharmaceuticals without the necessary licenses, permissions, or restrictions. This may involve the manufacture of counterfeit pharmaceuticals or the use of unauthorized substances in the manufacture of drugs. This is a criminal violation with serious consequences, including fines and jail.

Another related crime is buying prescription drugs online. This refers to purchasing prescription medications from an online pharmacy that is not government-licensed. These pharmacies may offer counterfeit pharmaceuticals or drugs that have expired, been improperly maintained, or were created in unhygienic settings.

Selling prescription medications without a legitimate prescription or a valid license is prohibited and may result in serious consequences. Individuals should only get prescription medications from licensed pharmacies and never distribute or sell their prescription drugs to others. Illicit prescription drug production and illegal prescription medication purchase online are both significant felonies with harsh punishments. It is critical to obey prescription medication rules and regulations to prevent legal complications.

Not legally. Not to mention the possible personal liability. The person could sue you if there was some kinda reaction. Or the cops would come looking for you for drug dealing.
