@A myHIVteam Member I was also on TDF for many many years, or drugs containing TDF...Atripla, Viread, Truvada, Genvoya, Biktarvy. Once my kidney function started to decline, I switched to Dovato which has no form of tenofavir in it. Of equal concern was being diagnosed with osteoporosis and osteopenia, which tenofavir can also cause. Since switching to Dovato my kidney labs are improving. It's true that TAF is safer, but it's just a different form of tenofavir and can cause the same adverse effects over time. Finally, I believe that my fibromyalgia was caused by HIV and/or HAART meds.

HIV actually does cause pain bcuz it attacks the immune system which weakens the body and the virus attacks ur nerves, joints, n muscles which leads to pain caused by fibromyalgia and neuropathy. Accidents and other injuries accelerate the process n the first drug they put people on was Truvada n that caused deterioration of bones n joints n caused nerve damage. Thers a lawsuit going thru court about it. I ended up being the unlucky person who ended up with severe nerve n joint damage resulting in my being off my feet most days n now using a power chair to get around wen I can get up to get in my chair. 35yrs of medical background n still continue my medical research about everything. I'm known as Dr Dad to my kids n other youngsters. Lol 😆.

@A myHIVteam Member & @A myHIVteam Member. That's why it's important to have a physician familiar with HIV medications. Trying to keep it all straight is the responsibility of professionals. I still think it's important to know as much as you can about the medications in your body. I've recently started struggling with neuropathy. I don't know if it's age, illness, or medication, but it seems a regular problem in people with HIV. I plan to discuss it with my doctor this next appt with labs. If he says anything helpful, I'll share it. Good info is golden.

Absolutely! Especially for us long timers. HIV can cause physical pain due to chronic inflammation and neuropathy, not to mention other causes I feel certain exist. Remember, there is still much we don't know about long-term HIV.
