Members connected over the shared experience of insomnia while living with HIV, with many describing sleeping only a few hours per night and relying on various medications like Sominex, Nytol, ZZZQuill, Zopiclone, and tizanidine to help them rest. Several members shared that sleep studies revealed sleep apnea, leading to life-changing improvements through CPAP devices or dental appliances, while others found relief through medical cannabis (particularly Indica strains) or by timing their HIV medications to minimize drowsiness. A recurring theme was the exhausting cycle of poor sleep affecting work and daily life, balanced by hope and practical advice from community members who encouraged others to pursue sleep studies and explore different solutions beyond medication.

And there's good news, you don't have to just use a cpap. There's a new appliance the can do which is a dental appliance which pushes your lower teeth forward while you sleep which can help. I have one. No more big mask or loud noise while you sleep. I love mine. Medicare pays for it and it's FDA approved.

I’ve had sleeping tablets (Zopiclone) prescribed for years. My insomnia is periodical. I know my sleep routine is up the wall at the moment with being at home all the time.

For those with sleep issues I suggest you ask your primary care physician to recommend a sleep study to determine if you may have sleep apnea. I did my study back in November 2020. It was an at home study. The study determined that my sleep was interrupted an average of 43 times per hour. I was floored by this info. My diagnosis was sleep apnea. I am using a c-pap device that has made all the difference in the world. I currently lease the unit for $26 per month and my health insurance pays $147 per month. After 14 months, the machine is mine. These things do work and the plus side is I don't take any medications for sleep with the exception of medical cannabis (Indica)
I am more productive and I never have any sleepy episodes during my waking hours at home and work. This was a god send for me.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea November 2020 and using a C-PAP device since then. I thought my sleep issue was from working overnight. My PCP prescribed a sleep study to find out.
I am now 2 months in and I must confess that my quality and duration of sleep has improved substantially. I no longer have drowsy episodes at work like before. When I take my HIV meds, it tends to make me feel drowsy and tired so I now take them at 9am daily when going to sleep.
Also, Indica enhances my ability to fall and stay asleep.
I now have a regimen that I follow and feel the improvement. Aloha!
