Cold sores aren’t a symptom of HIV, they are caused by HSV-1 (herpes simplex virus). The reason you may be getting them more frequently though is because your immune system is suppressed. This should improve over time as you build your immune system back up. There is a medication called valtrex in the mean time that can help reduce flare ups. I hope this is helpful and I would consult with your PCP (Primary Care Provider).

I take Aciclovir daily as a prophylactic against HSV, I still get them sometimes, usually when more stressed, but not as often.

Stress will cause them. You can take Lysine it's in the vitamin isle at any store. It's what I take if I get them.

It can be stress related trigger, or environmental trigger. I did a rainbow drop, essential oil treatment about nine years ago and have only had two since then. Not saying it's a cure, but it did relieve the frequent occurrence for me. The first time I had one, was after having three adjustments with a chiropractor in one week. He said that the virus is stored in your spine. My family gets them often, especially the ladies. I never did until that chiropractor experience, and under extreme stress afterwards. The oils, used in the technique, were from young living oils, and it's part of massage treatment. Wishing you the best
