Am I The Only One That Is Terrified Of The Coronavirus
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

I have more health issues than HIV.....I have diabetes.....fatty liver disease......and asthma....neuropathy. I'm terrified, but everyone tells me to quit talking about it so much. I had type A flu and it was bad last year. Surely I'm not the only one🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes, please, if anyone of you find a reliable source on info or a case study of someone with HIV getting Corona Virus, please share it. There are tons of factors, are you on ATV? Undetectable? CD4 count? AIDS defining illness? Other comorbid conditions? History of condition? Some of these factors could create significant risks for us. It's everyone's choice on how they want to react to the pandemic, but knowing the limited facts we have so far is an important part of responding in a way that is most productive. Personally, I choose to have a healthy respect for the new virus. Meaning enough fear to take precautions - be super concious of the spread of germs (distancing, hand washing, etc), but not fearful enough to wear a gas mask, fight people in a grocery store over toilet paper, etc. If my CD4 count was low, and viral load was not undetectable, I would definitely stay home (self quarantine). Every one of your states gets money to serve people with HIV, a community health worker helping to get groceries, telemedicine healthcare appt, leave from work, etc. are all possibilities for us. Just hoping we all stay safe, but respect, however, others choose to react to the outbreak.

Ya, been learning more about it, it's going to spread, it doesn't sound like it is a latent or chronic virus tho, it seems like 97% fight it off and it is gone, rather the whole sleep and reactivate type of viruses like HIV, herpes, etc. If anyone has a reliable source (link) that says other wise I would love to see. Also, it doesn't seem like after you get it once you're likely to be re-infected. They are still learning about it, so a lot of this is up in the air.

On another positive note I did read in a peer review journal, there has been some breakthroughs with being able to ID and attack latent HIV that hides in your body so we'll AVTs can't attack them, and they don't show up on normal viral load tests. This is the key to a potential cure or at least a step in the right direction. They have been able to demonstrate this in different types of animals and are getting close to beginning research on humans.

We all have different situations, and I am supportive of what each person thinks is the best approach for them. Me personally, I became aware of the virus immediately after I got it, and been on AVT since. I don't think my CD4 ever dropped below 400. I have hypoglycemia, but not diabetes, the antidepressants I take can make my blood pressure a little high at times, but other than that I am healthy, undetectable, and on AVTs. It's also important to know that HIV meds have been shown to improve the clinical outlook once you have contracted the coronavirus. There are like 3 different clinical trials going on to repurpose HIV and Ebola-like meds as a treatment for coronavirus. I will definitely wash hands more, use hand sanitizer more, use social distancing more, if more cases are confirmed in my city, but I have to go on living my life. If I had cancer, a low CD4 count, severe diabetes, cardio disease, or hypertension, I would def reconsider my approach & be more cautious. I wish you all peace, health, and happiness.

no, I not fearful. As long as you protect yourself, you be ok. With or Without an outbreak we should always cover our coughs wash our hand. if you are very sick stay home. I had some parent come in to the office to have their child get their eye exam, he was running a fever and coughing. The exam could have @A myHIVteam Member, take it easy take it one day at a time. You already have so much on you plate don't add anymore stress to it.
