Being a long-term Survivor has its many setbacks. One of them being loneliness and feeling left out. With the new generation of Atriplas, many of us long-term survivors experience feeling forgotten.

I was diagnosed in 1987 living half my life with HIV. I am interested in connecting with people who are also Long Term Survivors. I have searched the site and have found quite a few. We are so few and far between it has been hard to find others who have been through the journey we have experienced. Having lost so many friends in the 80 's and 90's plus being diagnosed myself has made me feel survivors guilt and PTSD. Looking for others who have experienced some of the same and like to set… read more

Just wanted to get a consensus how long term survivors are doing in general. Health, getting enough support, relations with family and friends, encountering any stigmas. I've lived with HIV half my life, diagnosed with HIV in 1987. I am having issues with all of the above. It is hard finding a place to fit in.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Major support from family health not so good but due to family history of vascular disease
Whether you are recently diagnosed or a long-term Survivor, we always remember the first time we hear the words, "you are HIV positive"
Do you remember?
My 2nd. thought was I’m going to die, how long do I have left?
For those long-termers , what would you tell your fellow HIV team member, who is recently infected or only a couple years into it?
That it's no longer a death sentence, so life your life and have fun!
This article probably can apply to everyone, but there are some good take aways. Read it in Poz Magazine a few weeks ago. Take a read.

Great article & thanks for sharing. I'm a fairly recent 'diagnosee'...only since 2018, but I completely second everything the lady said.
I believe that because of developments in the HIV treatments have progressed immensely; that there is now a growing number of people living with HIV for over 25 years; we call ourselves "longtime survivors". It is disturbing to me to see the shift in behavior that is existent amongst the millennials (ages 18-35); granted we have come a long way since the 80's with making HIV manageable, but the virus still can cause other side effects. The science community is finding new information daily… read more
