Because sometimes I want to talk about it, but I'm afraid 😔 of how others will react because of all the stigma that still exists around the illness. Just the few doctors I've told about my condition, as soon as they find out, their attitude changes 🤷🏻♀️. I never imagined I'd be in this situation 😔😔😔
I am OUT out with my status, I wanted to tell my family & some friends then it became hard to remember who was told and who was NOT told. Currently everyone other than my son, who lives 6 hours away from me and with his dad knows about my status.
When I was a Peer Navigator most of my clients had told less than 5 people in their life. I know positive advocates who are on the cover of HIV magazines & in Biktarvy & Dovato adds and then I know in the closet HIV positive people. There is no right answer, but once you tell the people, there is no taking it back.
It's completely understandable to feel that fear, and you're not alone in this. Many members of myHIVteam have gone through the exact same thing. What you experienced with some doctors is a painful experience, and unfortunately, it's not uncommon, but it doesn't reflect how everyone in your life will react.
