Getting nearly 2 hours of REM sleep nightly is genuinely impressive — that's on the higher end of healthy! REM sleep is the stage where your brain processes emotions, consolidates memories, and restores mental energy. For someone living with HIV, this matters a lot.

Here's why good REM sleep is beneficial for both HIV management and mental health:

- Immune support — Quality sleep helps your immune system function better, which is especially important when living with HIV
- Mental health balance — REM sleep plays a key role in emotional regulation, helping reduce anxiety and depression symptoms, both of which are common challenges with HIV
- Medication adherence — Feeling well-rested makes it easier to stay consistent with your HIV treatment routine
- Fatigue reduction — Good sleep directly combats the fatigue that many people with HIV experience
- Cognitive function — REM sleep supports memory and focus, helping you stay sharp day-to-day Since up to 70% of people living with HIV struggle with sleep, maintaining your current sleep quality is something worth protecting. Keep doing what you're doing — it's clearly working in your favor!
