I know with HIV or any condition we have to try to stay as healthy as possible. However is that living? I mean if you’re a health nut it sure is. But for those who want a few beers or a juicy cheeseburger or even a hot sexcapade now that’s what living is about at least to me. Every thing in moderation. When I was first diagnosed three years ago most that know me on here I was scared and wanted to do everything right. But after three years my cd4 count keeps getting higher and my viral load is… read more

Members rallied around the question of whether strict health rules are truly living, with many sharing that they also embrace life's small pleasures like food, drinks, and intimacy while managing HIV. Several members shared personal stories of living well for over a decade, noting that their numbers stay stable while still enjoying things in moderation, and one member even connected this mindset to managing a heart condition. A recurring theme was that joy, balance, and self-compassion are just as important to health as following every rule.

Whatever you do, do it with your all. Life isn't about trying to make it to the grave all well preserved and relatively unscathed. It's WAY more fun to come skidding in sideways after a wild ride and think "Holy shit! I made it!"

I agree in moderation for those that are younger and under 50yo. However, for me (over 50) and living in this new reality of horror in our nation I'm living for today and maybe tomorrow. Enjoying all I can and feeling good. Never putting others in danger but not as cautious and moderate as I used to be. Make sense?

I'm big on WTF for my cardiology stuff, I had a stress induced heart attack at 39 and can not quit bacon. It's not everyday, not every week but its defiantly not never. I watched an alcoholic I loved die from drinking, I do not drink, I'm a pot head. Sometimes our vices that help keep us alive kill us in the long run, BUT no one gets out alive and you only live this life once. So have a drink, eat some bacon and smoke a bowl because your own version of self care is also important.
