Members opened up honestly about how living with HIV feels, sharing emotions ranging from exhaustion, fear, anger, and deep loneliness to resilience, gratitude, and empowerment after decades of living with the virus. Several members described ongoing physical challenges like chronic pain, fatigue, insomnia, and nerve issues, while others shared that staying on medication and keeping a positive mindset has helped them lead full, active lives. A recurring theme was that HIV affects far more than the body, touching mental health, relationships, intimacy, and self-worth, but that community connection and peer support make the journey feel less isolating.

As a 35-year long-term survivor, HIV makes me feel stigmatized and rejected. It causes me physical and mental pain. It contributes to a number of mental health issues that I suffer from. It affects my sleep, and often causes fatigue.

HIV makes me feel just like the commercials, just just all bubbly and joyful, going out to social events and having a WONDERFUL TIME. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having HIV. It's the best time in my LIFE!!!

HIV is just part of who I am now. Many days I dont even think about it until I take my med before bed. After 34 years I am still in good health active and working full time. I try to always do as much as I can in a day because having HIV has always made me feel like there is never enough time to get it all done.
