Give all the HD you want. It’s safe. More so if you’re on meds

It's great that you're thinking carefully about this — and it's completely normal to want to reconnect with intimacy after a diagnosis. To answer your question: giving oral sex (assuming "HD" means a blowjob) carries a low risk of transmitting HIV, but it's not zero risk.

The risk is higher if:
- You have open sores, ulcers, or bleeding gums
- Your partner ejaculates in your mouth
- Either of you has another oral infection

Not swallowing does reduce risk, but the safest approach combines a few strategies. Here are some ways to make oral sex safer:

- Stay on ART — if your viral load is undetectable, transmission risk drops dramatically
- Use a condom during oral sex, as latex is very effective at blocking HIV
- Your partner can take PrEP — experts believe it can prevent transmission during oral sex too
- Avoid oral sex if you have mouth sores or gum issues, which are more common with HIV

Talking to your doctor about your specific situation is always the best move before getting back out there. You've got this! 💪

You can't get HIV or give HIV to anyone by oral sex, EXCEPT for one way. That is if you have open sores or bleeding gums. Stomach acid and saliva kill HIV.
