I’ve known about my status for a little over a year and have always been on biktarvy.

In the last 2 months I’ve had some sort of intestinal cramps.

Has this happened to anyone else? If yes, what has been your experience?
Is this to be expected?

Gastrointestinal symptoms can occur when taking HIV medications like Biktarvy. One component of Biktarvy (bictegravir) is known to have potential side effects. While stomach discomfort can be normal, it's important to discuss any new or persistent symptoms with your healthcare provider. Your symptoms could also be related to IRIS (Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome), which can occur when HIV treatment is working effectively and your immune system becomes stronger. As your immune system strengthens, it may begin fighting infections more actively, which can sometimes cause temporary symptoms including gastrointestinal discomfort. It's recommended to contact your healthcare team about these symptoms, especially since they've been occurring for two months. They can evaluate whether:
- The timing of when you take your medication needs adjustment
- Your treatment plan needs modification
- There are other underlying factors that need to be addressed
