Members came together with real support for someone recently diagnosed with kidney disease beyond early stages, sharing their own experiences living with the condition for years, some at stage 3 or 4. Several members offered practical advice including monitoring sodium and alcohol intake, drinking plenty of water, asking for a dietitian referral, and requesting a nephrologist if your doctor seems to be taking a wait-and-see approach. A recurring theme was that HIV medications over time can contribute to kidney decline, and that advocating for yourself, knowing your family history, and making diet changes early can make a meaningful difference.

This is probably one of the most rough topics for me. I deal with this every day. I’m going through it with my mom. If your stage two, your body’s probably just releasing a lot of protein they need to go over your medication’s. You need to change your diet. Start cutting out the salty food and things that are very high in potassium. Ask for a Dietitian.

I have been at stage 3 for 8 years. The disease is slow progressing. 1, thing you need to see is if the HIV meds you are on are a contributing factor. Modify your diet. DRINK WATER & VEGGIES that help detoxify the body.

@A myHIVteam Member No family history. It's most likely also from HAART treatment over 20 years now.
