First, know that you're not alone in this journey. While receiving a positive HIV diagnosis can feel overwhelming, HIV is now a manageable chronic condition thanks to modern treatments. The first crucial step is to get connected with an HIV doctor immediately to begin antiretroviral therapy (ART). Many people experience a range of emotions after diagnosis - from fear and anxiety to sadness and anger. These feelings are completely normal. Some helpful initial steps include:

• Getting connected with a support group for people living with HIV
• Learning the facts about HIV transmission and treatment
• Taking time to process your emotions
• Discussing with your doctor about starting treatment right away Remember that maintaining confidentiality is your right. You can decide who to tell and when you're ready to share this information. Focus first on getting connected to medical care and emotional support - these are the foundations for living a healthy life with HIV.
