There are a lot of us in the positive community that need to talk things out in a group setting. If there are no groups in my area, how can I start one?

Members shared practical strategies for finding or creating HIV support groups when local options are limited, with the most common advice being to contact HIV clinics and organizations like HIVe, APLA, AHF, and local AIDS service organizations that often host in-person or online groups, trivia nights, and social events. Several members suggested creative grassroots approaches, including using this website's meet others feature to connect with nearby members for Zoom meetings, partnering with a 501(c)(3) organization for structure and funding, or simply organizing informal gatherings that prioritize healthy social environments over bars and hookup spaces. A recurring theme was the critical, often life-saving importance of peer connection and nonjudgmental support, with members acknowledging that traditional medical care frequently overlooks this vital aspect of living well with HIV.

Unfortunately in today's political temperature funding for organizations support and prevention are being scaled back. This will have to be a volunteer to volunteer based effort across the country. If you are familiar with other HIV positive people in your neighborhood or community and have the know how to organize and have a space by all means start a group. I applaud everyone who can do their own outreach within their own communities. We must galvanize our forces and stay strong even though the resources are very limited at this time.

first thing Id do is, go to the meet others link on this website. type your area on the search bar. it will bring all the people up within a certain distance from you. message all of them and see if they are interested to have maybe a zoom meeting. That is how I would start.

If anyone knows of one in the Tampa Bay area, Pinellas County to be specific, please let me know. I've looked but can't find one. Was told there used to be some but they are no longer active.
