I'm nervous about the cost of medication. I have a high deductible health plan, and I am on the hook for another $5,000 before I get any benefit, then I pay 40% over the next $2,000.

I'm in sales, so I have some good months and some months that are scraping by. Overall, I'm still trying to catch up from my career switch, and now I'm wondering if I'll have to sell my house to maintain my health.

Members responded with reassurance and practical options for someone worried about affording HIV medication on a high-deductible health plan. Several members strongly recommended applying for co-pay assistance cards directly through drug manufacturers like Gilead and Biktarvy, with many sharing that they personally paid nothing out of pocket after enrolling. A recurring theme was that Ryan White Programs and state assistance may cover more than expected, including help with deductibles and premiums, and that income thresholds vary by household size and state.

In Georgia, assistance starts at 400% of federal poverty level or less
1 person (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators) for a house hold of 2 people
$106,600 for a house hold of 3 people
$128,600 for a family of 4 people.
Just because your employer (if they do) offers you insurance, you don't have to take it. If you want Ryan White assistance to pay your monthly health premium, you must get insurance off the marketplace.
You can also apply for assistance through the drug manufacturers to lower cost, but that is income based.

I'm not sure what drug you use, but Gilead covered the cost of mine last month while I was waiting for my new insurance to kick in. I hope you find some help it's terrible that we have to pay so much just to stay alive.

The co-pay assistance is free. You just have to contact the manufacturer. I used it before and they paid my co-pay even when I should pay the deductible first. And they paid it for me. I never paid a cent after that. I think the drug was Triumeq.

@A myHIVteam Member Then I'd go for the co pay card. I use that when I'm working W2. It should cover a lot of that. I've never paid a thing. No matter how crappy my insurance is. https://www.biktarvyhcp.com/support/cost-assist...
