How would a person climb stairs with an impaired left leg? Has anyone here experienced this and how did you ace getting over the challenge? What mobility device did you use, if any? Did this change the way you order food and other essentials get delivered to your door? Thoughts? Anyone?

Members responded to a question about climbing stairs with an impaired leg by sharing real experiences and practical strategies from their own recovery journeys. Several members described using crutches and scooting on their glutes as part of physical therapy, while others offered helpful state-specific resources for accommodations and mobility support. A recurring theme was taking things slowly, adapting home setups like smart doorbells and remote locks for safer deliveries, and staying resourceful while navigating recovery.

I've got that ring doorbell so I can see and talk to who's at the door, along with blink cameras I installed in the parking lot aimed at my front door and upstairs windows. When I moved in, I replaced the door locks and installed a manual deadbolt. I am considering an automatic deadbolt to allow my grocery delivery to come upstairs and put my food away with a good tip for their service. Once they leave, I can bolt the door remotely and say goodbye through the ring doorbell. Also, useful when I get packages and mail.

Part of my physical therapy is climbing stairs here in the hospital using crutches. Yesterday was the first try out. Harder than it looks but doable.
Also scooting up and down stairs on my glutes.
There are alternatives.
