How Long Can You Live

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
New Brunswick, NJ

I know they say todays modern drugs you can live a long life.but how long and is it a healthy long life or HIV plays games with other parts of your body . Can you live 30 years relatively healthy or is it unrealistic to think that. Inflammation comes to mind and HIV is notorious for inflammation. I read somewhere that a 22 year old who gets HIV will have lots of other health issues when they get to my age which is 58. And that is with them taking 35+ years of pills

Members responded to concerns about life expectancy with HIV with deeply reassuring stories, including several who have lived 20-35+ years since diagnosis and are now in their 60s, 70s, and even 76 years old while remaining relatively healthy on modern one-pill-a-day regimens. Many shared that staying undetectable, taking medications consistently, maintaining regular doctor visits, and living healthfully have allowed them to thrive, with several emphasizing that HIV itself is unlikely to be what ultimately ends their lives. A recurring theme was gratitude for how far treatment has come, acceptance of aging-related health challenges that affect everyone, and a shared determination to live fully in the present rather than fear an uncertain future.

I'm not sure the final decision is up to me...look I'm relatively healthy ...I eat well (not a lot of junk food...ok I love my sweets...lol)...I take a shit load of vitamins.
I'm pretty active walking a lot and I do some light excersise... I frequent a local bar The Black Eagle one a week to go dancing...I love my dancing...
But if I'm out and about and get hit by a car...well no matter what shape or health I am...when it's time to go you go...you're worm food...lol lol
