Whats The Most Valuable Piece Of Advice You’ve Received Since Your Diagnosis?

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
Dracut, MA

One of the first things I was told is that an HIV / AIDs diagnosis brings with it a rollercoaster of ups and downs so make sure you buckle up. About two years into my diagnosis I can say this has definitely been the case, at least for me. How about yourself? Do any of you remember sage words of wisdom that rang true for you?

Members reflected on the valuable advice they received after their HIV diagnosis, with many emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and taking control of their health rather than letting the virus control them. Several members highlighted the powerful role that stigma plays, noting that freeing yourself from HIV-related stigma transforms it into just another manageable condition, while others shared inspirational resources like Dr. John Kaiser's book 'Immune Power' and motivational mantras about staying grounded while reaching for your goals. A recurring theme was the importance of focusing on the present moment rather than dwelling on the past, actively managing your own care, and approaching life with balance, resilience, and hope.

The best advice that I ever received was you take charge of your own health and you control the virus, not the virus, controls you Good question have a great day.😀

When I was a kid I use to listen to American Top 40 with Casey Kc Ksen as the host.

He would always conclude his program with, “ keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.”

I always thought he meant, keep a balanced attitude, don’t give up and keep trying your best.

That advice has worked for me.
