Yes, HIV can increase the risk of heart disease. HIV can directly affect vascular
biology, which can lead to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. According to Johns Hopkins researchers, men with long-term HIV infections are at a higher risk of developing plaque in their coronary arteries, even when other risk factors are considered. HIV can also damage the myocardium directly, and indirectly through inflammation and increased susceptibility to infections, toxins, and ischemia.

I don't believe the 2 are related. My whole family has heart issues and not hiv. I'm the only one in my family with hiv that I know of and probably have the least amount of heart issues right now. I could be wrong but I don't believe the 2 in general causes u to have issues. Hugs to you!

I do, but they’re not related. I had a heart attack then got infected a year later. Both are well controlled with meds and lifestyle changes.
