Looking back during this time, 🚫 NOT 🚫 what you think today, but looking back to the time, did you think Ryan was treated fairly? Was people justified to be scared back then?
You can be honest, nobody is going to attack you. Things have changed and so has most people.
So, what was your thoughts on Ryan's treatment BACK THEN. AGAIN, 🚫 NOT 🚫 what you think 💬 🤔 today, but what you thought back then.

"President Reagan for his understanding of HIV and AIDS at a time of great prejudice."
@A myHIVteam Member, Reagan didn't understand AIDS at all. It took his administration 7 years to even utter the word on TV. Reagan also left office in 1989, Bush Sr was in office when Ryan White died. Reagan defunded every department of money except the military. Reagan is the fault that there was no funding for HIV research for the first 7 years. If the Reagan administration put more effort and money into HIV research, we might be farther along than we are now, or maybe less people could have been infected if more information could have been offered. Reagan did sh!t for HIV. Reagan and HIV/AIDS should not be in the same sentence. They do not belong together.

On a more serious note Ryan White was alive in my lifetime and it was at a point where the first lover that I had or fell in love with came down with Kaposis sarcoma which is a cancer related to AIDS.
Mr White passed as I attended to my sick lover.
.... in some ways.
I try to forget it but in other ways,... it's part of me.

Back then I thought Ryan was treated unfairly. By then we had enough information on how HIV was transmitted. And yet an ignorant government supported such poor treatment

Ryan White was not treated right. I honestly would not have treated him any differently than anyone else, even with HIV, but that's just me. I saw him as a kid, not as a pariah as everyone else did. Every time I saw him and what he went through in trying to get an education, I cried.
@A myHIVteam Member, Reagan was very ignorant about HIV. He refused to mention HIV/AIDS for years, it was like he ignored it partially because it was labeled "the gay plague". The first funding for AIDS research was tied in with TSS in some kind of Trust Fund, but shortly afterward, Reagan cut the budget. Reagan definitely hindered HIV research - if he had gone and provided funding, I feel that we would be a lot further than we are now.

Ohhhhh. Thank you. Never quite understood why it became safe for me after a while cause my numbers were still looking bad when they started suggesting I get it. Thanks Nola. 😘
