How Do You Feel About Where You Live?
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

I see more people here from many places here in the US, and around the world. I am curious about these places
Are you happy with where you live, or would you move if you could? As a person with HIV, do you receive adequate and compassionate healthcare? Are the people of your community accepting or do you feel discriminated against, if they were to know your status? What is your favorite thing about where you live? Are there nature or historic sites of interest? Anything at all that you would… read more

I'm happy living in the "bubble" of San Francisco. I moved here in 1979 when I was 31. I can't imagine living anywhere else. We bought a relative's house in 1983 so are fortunate to own one. The nearest ER is 4 blocks up the hill! Close to a WF and Safeway. I have most of my needs met within a 5 block radius of our home. The weather is perfect, too.

For many years I struggled, I moved from state to state partner to partner. Trying to find my home, not his. I decided to leave urban America and try the Midwest. A small town in Illinois called Geneva. It has a Swiss appeal, an educated demographic and an older population.
I finally feel safe..❤️💜🩵💙💚💛🧡🩷

We moved to the Bay Area 6 years ago and we have found our happy place in San Mateo after 5 years in the City of San Francisco. We are "happy" where we live, but we both grew up in Texas and have lived all over the country and we find it very hard to make close friends here. We have some great ones - but the LGBTQ community is not particularly welcoming or interested if you are over 30. We would LOVE to move back to D.C. or the East Coast. We get really great care here from a quality standpoint. Being gay in CA is pretty much like being Vanilla - nothing special and that takes time to get used to - but after living places where we learned to deal with the stress of being unsafe - you really start to notice its absence after about a year and it has a positive impact. We love wine country and all of the different foods we can get living in CA. We have really ventured out as far as food and wine are concerned and the weather is spectacular when its not cold or raining.
It is really nice to be a 15 minute drive from the Coast and about the same drive to San Francisco.

I like where I live in Volusia County Florida. The beach and my job is only about 30 minutes away. Its always warm and I can get outside often. The only downside is my family is far away. We have a good support group that meets once a month and I have a great doctor care team in Orlando.
