Members shared mixed experiences with Cabenuva injections as an alternative to daily HIV pills, with most agreeing the treatment is effective but comes with varying levels of injection site pain and discomfort that can last from minutes to several days. Several members described practical strategies like requesting injections in both cheeks to avoid limping, planning to rest for 30 minutes afterward, and switching from bimonthly to monthly injections to reduce side effects, while noting benefits such as improved adherence, fewer digestive issues, and achieving undetectable viral loads. A recurring theme was that the decision is deeply personal, with some members embracing the convenience and effectiveness despite temporary discomfort, while others preferred sticking with daily pills due to needle aversion, concerns about developing resistance, or not wanting the commitment of scheduled clinic visits.

You get 2 injections and it is extremely painful. Don't plan on standing or walking for about 30 mins after. Make sure they do one in each cheek or you will be walking with a limp in circles for a couple days.

@A myHIVteam Member, I don't find them painful at all. A little discomfort for maybe 10 minutes then everything is good to go.
But not everyone will have the same effects as me

I’ve been on the Cabenuva injections for about 4 months. The actual injections arent painful but the next few hours can be. One injection always hurts more afterwards than the other & makes the entire cheek swollen for quite a few hours. I have less digestive issues now than taking any pills. I would highly recommend

I have talked about this with my physician and did not feel the trade off of having to schedule visits every 8 weeks was mot worth the trade off in medication administration

I have not changed from my one HIV pill daily to the shot for a few reasons. One of them is that I keep hearing from our Gilead drug rep about people on HIV injectables developing resistance and then needing to go on multiple pill regiments after.
