I went this morning and had it done! I also talked to my pharmacist whose amazing and he gave me some piece of mind and told me to breathe I should be fine so fingers crossed. I really appreciate all this support and very glad all my google searches about this had me find this community. Really nice to finally have people who can relate and not judge me. Thank you
My 4 hiv drugs are taken 4 times daily, 12 noon 2pm 10pm and 1am. I can be as late as I wish in taking them, as there is much more forgiveness in a twice or four times daily regime. Twice or four times daily drugs stay in the Blood for much longer than once daily drugs, thus preventing drug resistance. I did try the once daily Biktary, but it didnt agree with me and made me very ill, so I reverted back to my old 4 times daily regime which has minimal side effects
The UTI that you had can make you very unwell. So its not your fault that you missed a few doses of Biktarvy. Hopefully with the very few doses you missed, youll probably be fine. But its very important in the future not to miss doses, as missing too many doses can allow the HIV virus to escape and replicate. It sounds to me that HIV is still very stigmatised in the United States and I can understand the effect this must have. In the UK no one really cares if you have HIV or not.
Like a lot of people, I carry my phone on me at all times. When I'm sleeping, it's on my bedside table on the charger. Since all my meds are once a day meds and one of them has to be taken in the morning, I take everything all at once for simplicity. Since my phone is with me at all times, I have an alarm set on my phone that has a specific ring tone to act as my pill reminder. Even if I sleep in, it always wakes me up because the only thing on my phone that uses that sound, ring tone, whatever you want to call it, is my pill alarm. Just in case I'm brain dead one morning and don't know why my phone is making noise at that hour, it will say "DRUGS!!!"
It sounds cheesy, but it really seems to have worked wonders for me.
As for resistance, this more commonly happens when you go for an extended period of time without taking the meds at all. One missed dose here and there generally won't do anything. It's when you miss it over a more prolonged period (days, weeks, etc) that you can begin to develop a resistance.
@A myHIVteam Member I had to reread this. Most likely your fine. If I read this right, You've only missed a couple of times. I've missed more than that on more than one occasion. Shit happens. I've ran out of meds on vacation. Or ran out of meds on a Friday because I thought I heard more than one pill in a bottle. Try from 100% but you won't mess up your medicine by missing a pill or too.
