Has Anyone Used Oxandrolone, Also Known As Anavar, To Combat Weight-loss?
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

I've been HIV+ for 24 years, on meds for 20 years, always undetectable, but in the last year my weight has dropped to 61 kgs, which is rather low for a male of 5' 10 1/2". I have no fat on me at all, which I like, but my rib cage has begun to show, and that's not pleasant!

I have a very healthy diet and I'm physically active, so to me the most obvious solution is to start eating things like cake and ice-cream regularly, which I don't normally do, but I've been googling the problem and found… read more

I used to use this when I was weight training. I would strongly suggest that you do not use any steroids unless given by a doctor and you are physically exercising with weights. I inject testosterone and human growth hormone which helped me with my diet but I also exercise up to four times a week. Exercise meaning weight lifting running and so forth is imperative if you are going to start steroid use.

Thanks @A myHIVteam Member (and @A myHIVteam Member) for your thoughts.

Paul, my testosterone level was tested, at my request, some months ago, and it was found to be normal. (After asking me a number of slightly embarrassing questions, the nurse had been fully confident that it would be! 😀)

Anyway, Paul, I am interested that my question about anavar has caused you to speak about taking testosterone. Do you take testosterone to increase your weight, or to combat muscle-wasting, or . . . ?

Thank you.

@A myHIVteam Member. I don't have more to add to what @A myHIVteam Member wrote, except to say I agree with him 100%. I have been on exogenous testosterone since 2005. I started on injections, then reluctantly moved to topicals... but, I have no problem now with topicals, I have kept within normal range when tested on topicals, something that was hard for me with injections. Testosterone can help with increasing muscle mass and bone density, but can also raise blood pressure and put you at greater risk for blood clots. Please follow your doctor's orders, and get regular testing of your T levels. Good Luck🍀

PS: First thing is to get Testosterone levels to see if you are low. More isn't better, your body converts excess testosterone to estrogen.

@A myHIVteam Member. Well, that explains why you and I are the same height 5'10", but I outweigh you by 100 lbs (45.5 kg). 🤠
