The United States is behind the ball with this shot. As the United States is now offering this, it's been available in Europe for almost 2 years now.
Infact, Europe is already on phase 2 of giving this same exact shot BIMONTHLY, instead of monthly. The United States hasn't had any clinical trials for bimonthly yet. Europe always leads in HIV advancements, the United States just as always, follows along long after Europe clears their drugs.

My ID doctor has mentioned this but has yet to prescribe it for my use.
On the other hand, this would be more of a convenience for many who are challenged with managing the daily pills one has to take. If/When my ID doc prescribes this, I will update my answer to this question. Aloha! John
