Cleaning Reusable Face Mask
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

For those of you who wear the reusable face mask and not the disposable, how do you clean your mask?
Do you:
1) Put them in the washing machine?
2) Wash them by hand?
3) Boil them?
4) Wash them in the dishwasher?
I have just been washing them in my washing machine, but today I decided to boil them on the stove top. Tomorrow I might try putting them in the dishwasher. So, how do you clean yours?

Hand wash then dry on sanitize cycle in my dryer. I have a supply of more than 30 reusable and washable masks. I wait until at least 15 of them have been used before washing. I wear a fresh one each day. I also keep a box of 50 disposable masks at work and at home in case I may need it or someone at work may need one if they forget theirs at home.
Washing in the washer or boiling may compromise the integrity of the masks intention of keeping you safe. Over time it does wear out and need replacing.
The technology is improving daily on the structure and engineering of face masks. We just have to make sure we are using and wearing it correctly.

I was by hand in hot disinfecting soapy water , then rinse with boiling hot water, wring out excess water and smooth out to dry. I then spray 91% alcohol onthe interior and exterior sides of masks, while drying . This last step is what i do between deep washings of every few days.
