Does Having A CD 4 Count Over 1000 Mean Our Immune System Is Strong Enough To Fight The Coronavirus If Infected?
A myHIVteam Member asked a question πŸ’

Wondering if we fall into the immune compromised category as described by the CDC if our CD 4 count is in the range of normal. It probably doesn't matter for me since I'm in my 60's and have kidney disease which both put me in the high risk category for the Coronavirus. Also I have heard through the HIV grapevine that being on AIDS meds might offer some protection.

I live in Seattle, the epicenter of the virus for the US so looking for as much information to, I guess, convince myself I'll be… read more

Ladies
Enough!.
...πŸ™πŸ˜”...😊..the only antiviral that South Korea has been using that is showing any promise is Kaletra, as Xavier said. It has not been proven in clinical trials yet in this country. This is from POZ.com about the coronavirus and people with HIV:
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
β€œFor an HIV patient who is on stable antiretroviral therapy and has a normal CD4 count, their risk may be slightly increased. People often lump HIV patients with other immunosuppressed patients, but HIV is a different disease than it was years ago. For people who have a reconstituted immune system because of treatment, I think the risk is not going to be tremendously different.”

So according to that doctor those of us whose CD4 count is the normal range may be no more at risk then the rest of population for contracting and fighting it. But that assumes you are healthy in every other way. ( I’m not, I also have heart problems and other health issues so I’m still very concerned for myself ) The link to the full article is below.

Secondly although I think we should be cautiously optimistic that SOME HIV meds are being used to treat the coronavirus is clinical trails but to jump to the conclusion that you personally are immune from the getting it become you are taking antivirals medication is a HUGE jump in logic and should in no way make you stop from being cautious about getting it.
Keep washing your hands, social distancing etc.
please be careful.

I’m a bit apprehensive about the idea my HIV medicine may be able to to treat the coronavirus.
The supply of if it is not gigantic and how fast do you thing there supply will last when tens of thousands of people out there need it?
If they start using my HIV to treat The coronavirus they will run out in weeks with maybe months before I can get more.
So maybe we shouldn’t be wishing our meds can be used for coronavirus.

Jeff25 living with HIV you want to protect yourself from catching any type of medical condition. It's not your cd4 you should be concerned with it's your viral load. You are on retroviral meds which is a great defense, however you are at risk because of the other health problems and the area that you are in. My advice to you would be to prevent exposure to groups as much as possible and keep up the hand washing which we should be doing all the time anyways. If you are religious have lots of faith in God. Take care of yourself and ride out the storm like the rest of us. Good luck my friend

I believe that we fall into the danger group. Having a disease that allows dangerous pathegons to possibly attack us makes us susceptible. This however requires common sense meaning if you have a cold don't go out. If you have a CD4 count of less than 200 then stay isolated. Saying your hands, staying away from sick people and large groups and keeping safe will keep us alive.
