Should The Term "AIDS" Be Retired? I Think @A myHIVteam Member
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

Should the term "AIDS" be retired? I think @A myHIVteam Member might have mentioned this, but this is the first time I've seen it on Medscape.
Is AIDS just advanced HIV infection, or would eliminating the term give the impression that it's no longer a problem?

Does Everyone Who Is Positive Eventually Get AIDS?
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

Someone that is negative asked me a question I didn't know how to answer. Are there folks that stay positive for life or does it all end with AIDS?

asking for a friend

A myHIVteam Member

Not if they take care of themselves it's not necessarily that they will get a diagnosis of Aids .

Once diagnosed I did just that ( take care of myself ( of course aided by my late husband who was at… read more

Remembering Ryan White. Today Is The Anniversary Of Ryan's Death.
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

Looking back during this time, 🚫 NOT 🚫 what you think today, but looking back to the time, did you think Ryan was treated fairly? Was people justified to be scared back then?
You can be honest, nobody is going to attack you. Things have changed and so has most people.
So, what was your thoughts on Ryan's treatment BACK THEN. AGAIN, 🚫 NOT 🚫 what you think 💬 🤔 today, but what you thought back then.

Life
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

Does it get any better by time?

A myHIVteam Member

Yes, it does. But it's all about the mindset. Keeping your outlook positive & loving rather than negative & chaotic is key. Once you let negativity set in, you're doomed. But it's definitely a CHOICE… read more

Undetectable But Low Cd4 Count
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

I have been undetectable for nearly 6 months but never have had a cd4 above 170 and that was when I had a viral load of 500,000 !!! Not a typo. Technically this has kept me in the AIDS dx but zero symptoms. Even my ID doc is puzzled by it considering I have had zero symptoms in 1.5 years.

Anyone with similar viral load and cd4 discrepancies?
What does your doc say?

A myHIVteam Member

Don't worry when your VL under 50, it call undetacteble and your CD4will increase,my VL take me yrs just under 50but since my VL always under 50, my Car never over 500,the highest time it was… read more

This Is For The Heterosexual People.
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

Most of HIV deals with gay men. Straight people with HIV probably feel left out with support, help, or somebody to talk to. My question for straight people is, how do you address things when people talk about HIV and how it's a gay disease, and how gays deserve it for being deviants. Or how do you address when people say, "it will never happen to me, I live a moral lifestyle."

A myHIVteam Member

I speak to ALL people it hurts me that BECAUSE of the new medication people are going so haphazardly into unprotected sex I try to get them focused on IT IS STILL A HORRIBLE DISEASE 💯👌🤘👋👍🧐☢️🚧😭😇🙏💯

Time To Refresh
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

Do you think it’s time for the CDC and The national institute of health to refresh there terminology on HIV. It’s 2024 not 1983 and major advances have been made. My opinion on the matter is as followed: first retire the word AIDS it is a dirty word and causes stigma. From now on advanced HIV should be used. Next undectable is everyone under 200 regardless of what lab you use. There is no evidence that I can find that says your healthier below 20 viral load then at 199.so we need to stop… read more
