For instance, instead of just any average Joe and Jane on the ads, what about having people like Magic Johnson or Charlie Sheen on HIV commercials.
Get celebrities and athletes to promote U=U. Do you think this would make a difference in people who are afraid of us because of our status? Do you think athletes and celebrities could change people's minds on HIV?
The only thing I don’t like is that a lot of those people on those commercials are being paid by the pharmaceutical companies. If you are HIV positive you shouldn’t be cashing in on are situations… read more
Had anyone else experienced a very long latent stage before symptoms showed?
At the time of my diagnosis, my vl was 100,000 and my cd4 was 60. I was not in good shape
In the last 20 years I have been hiv+, I've never seen a straight man portrayed in an hiv commercial. I have seen gay men , a trans woman , and african american women, but only 1 straight african man named "Earvin "Magic Johnson" or straight men and women.
How can we change that ?
We all talk about inclusivity, let's support that idea fully.
Best,
Cynthia.
I don’t see a reason why not other than there’s still the stigma that it’s considered a gay disease , when we all know that is the furthest thing from the truth.
With different pharmaceutical companies, AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna all creating a covid-19 vaccine in the coming months, which one would you decide to take or would you at all? 🤔
@A myHIVteam Member You are very correct. As long as these vaccines give a great results then each year we will have to get another vaccine just like we do yearly for the flu shot. The Covid… read more
Being gay I know all to well about HIV and AIDS however I’m beginning to realize that straight people have a different perspective on this subject.of course I’m talking strictly about Americans not other countries where hiv is mostly a straight disease.some people actually think HIV is no longer around anymore. It's been a challenge sometimes to educate potential negative sex partners. I remember when I was negative I tried to talk to positive people about what it means to be positive and what the medicines do.
If I can't explain my medicines and how they affect me and HIV, how can I expect people to accept me?
You are sure cute.
Sometimes, the news of a diagnosis that we are not prepared for or surgery catches us off guard. What Are some of the things you do to offset the stress?
He he. Thank you. You amuse me too. He he he
Yes, they do; I used to live in Cleveland; that's where I found out my positive status; if it wasn't for them and the staff, I don't think I would have made it through just knowing; my spouse died… read more
Looking back during this time, 🚫 NOT 🚫 what you think today, but looking back to the time, did you think Ryan was treated fairly? Was people justified to be scared back then?
You can be honest, nobody is going to attack you. Things have changed and so has most people.
So, what was your thoughts on Ryan's treatment BACK THEN. AGAIN, 🚫 NOT 🚫 what you think 💬 🤔 today, but what you thought back then.
A friend of mine found out he was positive and almost immediately went home and killed himself. I had often thought the same way before diagnosis but that was when it was still a death sentence.
Hard topic but I'm wondering how others feel
I have tried several times but by the grace of God it didn't work the last time I tried it was a year ago in April I took over 300 pills and I'm still here spent nine days in the hospital to all those… read more
