I'm curious as to have a hot shower can do to my overall health, while living with HIV and Bipolar?

Well, myHIVteam explained it very clearly, but personally, when I feel strong pain, I take a hot bath, as hot as my body can stand without burning myself, and a cold bath when I feel anxious; that helps me relax.

Great question! What can a hot shower do for overall health when living with HIV?

Hot showers can actually offer some real benefits, especially when it comes to stress and mental well-being — both of which matter a lot when managing HIV.

Here's what a hot shower may help with:

- Stress relief — Warm water can help relax tense muscles and calm the nervous system, which is important since stress can negatively impact your immune system
- Better sleep — A warm shower before bed can help signal your body to wind down
- Mood support — The warmth can trigger a relaxation response, which may help with emotional balance
- Skin and circulation — Warm water improves blood flow, which supports overall wellness A myHIVteam member once shared advice about taking "a hot bath with relaxing music" as part of a self-care routine when feeling unwell — and it's easy to see why that resonates.

Just a couple of things to keep in mind:

- Very hot water can sometimes cause dizziness or dehydration, so staying hydrated afterward is a good idea
- If you run a fever, a hot shower may not be the best choice — opt for lukewarm instead

Overall, a warm shower is a simple, accessible self-care tool that can support both physical and emotional health. 🚿
