Living with HIV can be emotionally and physically draining, but there are many ways to recharge and take care of yourself. The good news is that small, consistent habits can make a big difference over time.

Here are some strategies to help manage energy and emotional wellbeing:

Physical Self-Care
- Take your antiretroviral therapy (ART) medications as prescribed — this is the foundation of managing fatigue
- Get regular physical activity, even light movement, to help boost energy levels
- Prioritize consistent, quality sleep by keeping a regular bedtime routine
- Listen to your body and rest when it tells you to

Emotional & Mental Self-Care
- Work with a mental health professional if you're experiencing anxiety or low mood
- Practice self-acceptance — your worth and dignity are not defined by your diagnosis
- Try meditation, yoga, or a mental health app for on-the-go support
- Reduce exposure to stressful situations and toxic relationships where possible

Social Support
- Stay connected with trusted friends and family
- Sharing your feelings with others who understand your experience can provide real comfort and inspiration As one myHIVteam member shared after 27 years of being undetectable: living a healthy, stress-free life and coming to terms with personal struggles made all the difference. It's a journey, not a destination — and self-compassion is a big part of it.

If you notice ongoing changes in your mood or energy, don't hesitate to bring it up with your doctor. You're your own best advocate. 💙

I so vividly recall when poz meant a short life. So glad to have poz brothers and sisters counting decades.

I can understand your frustration Will. In our case I am the deaf roommate. Hearing aids help but the most common words I speak are "what?" "Would you repeat that.". My hubby often takes the role of translator.

I agree with Cookie. And with our current administration I find that the non-stop abandonment of facts is exhausting.

Recharge? Pulling weeds, mowing the lawn, a good meal, time with friends...

My battery is about 97% I took a disco nap this afternoon slept horrible last night. What drains me: my room mate that is deaf in one ear and hardly hear out of the other, having to yell for him to hear. I wish he would keep those false teeth in, him trying to talk is kinda funny. However, when my sister had her

My recharge method is to cook .....

Husband used to tell me when he got home from the road ( he was an otr driver many of the first years of our relationship ) I know when your depressed because you cook everything in the house then bitch there's nothing to cook :) ....

( well benefited him because I would spend my day off work in front of the stove cooking then portioning out meals to freeze so when he got his weekend ( weekend hell 7 pm Friday night till 3 am Sunday morning does not a weekend make in my world ! ) ....

But at least he got to pick and choose what he might want the next 2 weeks .

( which worked normally until the company kept him out 5 weeks in a row and he ate his foods then his canned good supply 😱 but survived .....
