<< Over half of the people carrying HIV experience chronic pain at some point, which is difficult to treat. In a new JNeurosci paper, Hui-Lin Pan, from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and colleagues used mice to explore how HIV leads to chronic pain.

Previous research separately linked a viral protein called glycoprotein 120 (gp120) to increased pain sensitivity and overactive signaling of a type of nerve receptor in the spine to nerve pain. Informed by these findings, the… read more

This could explain my pain, but it does little good at my age at the rate scientific research moves. Not holding my breath. Thanks for sharing.

@A myHIVteam Member, thanks for the extra information. I have mentioned it in a neuropathy group, asking if anybody knows if it's used for whole body treatment of neuropathic pain/itching. I suspect it isn't. For example some of my worst itching is on my scalp and at the top and back of my spinal column. I can't imagine that it would be safe to fire lasers in that area. But I may be wrong. Meanwhile I have taken my first dose of 100 mg of gabapentin, and have managed to sleep through a whole 8 hours, although because I have a (hysterical ) overactive bladder (OAB) I was still woken five times during the night to void.

Ever since I started getting it done I've been looking into it more and I'm seeing a lot of chiropractors and physical therapy doctors are using it as well for neuropathy and pain in different body parts. I just thought it would be something I would have for the rest of my life. I was at work one day and I was driving my foot and my favorite podiatrist stopped in the office to book a surgery and she asked me what was going on. She told me to come by the office after work and she hooked me up and I've booked 10 sessions with her what she says generally is enough to take care of it but after the first one the neuropathy was virtually gone. I was also suffering from plantar fasciitis and it's mostly gone as well. I'm hoping I can wear high heels sometime this summer.👠

@A myHIVteam Member, thanks for that info. I've not heard of it before. Do you know if that treatment is used for whole-body neuropathy/itching?
