Sometimes I don’t even recognize myself. You wouldn’t think so but HIV does help you change and develop some for the positive and some for the negative. No pun intended. In my case, I feel like I become a more down to earth person I’ve gained empathy, patients and honesty that I didn’t always have in the past.

What positive qualities or strengths have you developed from living with HIV?

Living with HIV can help develop remarkable inner strengths and perspectives. Many people discover a deeper sense of gratitude for life's simple pleasures - like having a roof overhead, food, and supportive relationships. This appreciation can bring more happiness and peace.

Some key strengths that often emerge include:

* Resilience and determination - Learning to navigate challenges builds mental and emotional strength
* Authenticity - Many find freedom in being themselves without hiding their struggles or striving to appear "perfect"
* Compassion and advocacy - Becoming educators and supporters for others in the community
* Spiritual growth - Developing inner strength through faith or positive mindset practices
* Perspective on what matters - Focusing on truly living life rather than letting HIV define you

A myHIVteam member shared: "Our chronic illnesses make our light shine through every shade of darkness." Another emphasized that after years of feeling they needed to be better or stronger, they now know "I am enough."

The journey isn't always easy, but choosing to focus on positive outcomes and living fully can transform how you experience life with HIV.
