If you're not getting the answers you think you should from your doctor you should definitely look for another one. I wouldn't want to be having pain like that for so long and a doctor not trying harder to explore the source

Good morning yesterday I went to the doctor to the gastroenterologist for the same problem not like yours but I've been having like a lots of pain on my right side down by my stomach and I told the doctor my bowel has changed colors they said not to worry about it then they started asking me all these questions about HIV. That has always been a sensitive topic for me to talk about I start to say why you asking about that what does that have to do with my stomach but I just gave them the best answers that I could really ready to walk out that office and run to hit the door LOL but anyway I don't know maybe I look for another gastro doctor I know I'm not answering your question but I hope you find out what the problem is take care of yourself okay until then be straight up

Why are you experiencing persistent pain in your lower bowels and right abdomen for 6 months?

Abdominal pain lasting this long definitely deserves thorough investigation. When living with HIV, persistent abdominal symptoms can have various causes and shouldn't be dismissed.

It's important to advocate for yourself when symptoms persist. If your current doctors aren't taking your concerns seriously after 6 months of pain, you have every right to push for more comprehensive testing or seek a second opinion.

Important symptoms to watch for:

If you experience any of these alongside your pain, seek immediate medical attention:
- Severe or worsening pain
- Fever or night sweats
- Unexplained weight loss
- Nausea or vomiting
- Blood or mucus in your stool
- Very watery diarrhea
- Swollen lymph nodes

What to discuss with your doctor:

- Request specific tests like blood work, stool analysis, or imaging studies
- Ask about whether your HIV treatment could be contributing to symptoms
- Describe exactly how the pain affects your daily life
- Keep a symptom diary noting when pain occurs and what makes it better or worse

Your instinct that something needs more attention is valid. Persistent pain deserves answers, not dismissal. Consider finding a provider who will listen and investigate thoroughly.
