Protecting yourself in the winter when living with HIV is mostly about shielding your immune system from common seasonal illnesses, like the flu or COVID-19, and managing the physical toll that cold weather can take.

Members shared practical tips for protecting their health during winter while living with HIV, covering vaccines, medication supplies, and daily habits. Several members highlighted the importance of staying current on flu, COVID-19, and pneumonia vaccines, keeping at least a 30-day buffer of ART medications, and working closely with pharmacists who can offer testing and guidance. A recurring theme was balancing practical preparation, like building a medication inventory and eating nourishing foods, with staying warm, active, and connected to community for both physical and mental well-being.

Make sure you're up to date on your flu and COVID vaccinations. Stay warm and keep some tea or cold-weather fluids at home or in your room. Eat chicken or vegetable broth.

Debes estar al día con tus vacunas de gripe y COVID. Mantente abrigado y en tu casa o cuarto mantén siempre algún té o para el frío Come caldos de pollo o de verduras

@A myHIVteam Member, when my meds got changed, I kept using what I had left of the old meds, then started on the new meds, just so I COULD have that buffer.
