I was approached by a very good looking guy online a few months ago on the gay dating App called Scruff. I am not actively looking for a partner. However, this guy is so attractive, I am tempted to travel the 130 miles to meet him.. Thats a round trip of 260 miles involving 2 Train journeys outbound and 2 Trains homebound. He has video called me on Whattsapp a number of times, and appears to be genuine. He insists he's looking for a long term partner and is calling me darling and sweetheart… read more

Members weighed in on whether it's worth traveling to meet a potential long-distance partner found on a dating app, with most encouraging the poster to go for it and not let health challenges or self-doubt hold them back. Several members shared their own long-distance relationship experiences, with one noting they relocated internationally for love and another sharing that accepting someone's HIV status right away is a genuine sign of interest. A recurring theme was the importance of staying flexible, protecting yourself emotionally by keeping plans cancellable, and not letting fear of disappointment prevent you from exploring connection.

I would, but I'd rather meet at a halfway point that way we're both traveling and the territory is neutral. 🤷🏾‍♀️

@A myHIVteam Member Thats very sound advice. Im holding a hotel at $80 for Wednesday to hopefully meet him and stay overnight, as the journey is long and tiring. I havent heard back from him regarding this date, but the hotel reservation can be cancelled without penalties if I dont hear back from him.

I'd go. He made his decision regarding your status. His reasons for not wanting to travel at this time seems reasonable. I wouldn't second guess it. I'm in a situation with someone that accepted it right off. He younger than me and very bi sexual. I was thinking the same thing you are thinking now. So far so good. Don't let HIV stop you from living your life.

I've had long-distance before, one overseas LA-Paris, and I went to live and work there, and one LA-Chicago that was easier and I went there for a year too. Neither lasted over a year after that. At this stage in life I'd consider a move if things look long-range. I live in Long Beach now, which has a small HIV community that I don't find I have much in common with, but 25 miles north in Hollywood, there are tons of HIV social and event groups, so just a 1-hour train ride. I find they'd rather live on the beach with me. I love it here but that's not a prerequisite. Being more mature now, relationships have more success and I would consider getting out of trumpland. It all depends but its a yes for me and I encourage you to have some later-life adventure! xo
