Members shared varied experiences with gastrointestinal side effects while on Biktarvy, with some experiencing severe diarrhea that disrupted daily activities and others finding relief by switching medications or identifying alternative causes like high-dose vitamin D supplements. Several members offered practical advice, including talking to an HIV specialist about alternative antiretroviral options, using Immodium for symptom management, seeing a gastroenterologist for proper evaluation, and tracking food triggers with dietary adjustments like limiting carbs or trying low-FODMAP foods. A recurring theme was the importance of not dismissing persistent GI symptoms, as they can lead to serious nutritional deficiencies and weight loss, and advocating for oneself to find the right combination of medication and supportive care.

I have GI issues. but it's more of a slowed digestion. I vomit all the time. Get an overstuffed feeling after eating very little. I had to start limiting my carbs including wine and add some fodmap foods. Some days are better than others. And fortunately, it only happens to me at night. The reason I haven't changed meds is because there's nothing to say it's not the HIV. I had vomiting issues on my first two meds. The diarrhea is something new for me. It's started after my last two vomiting attacks.

I started using Biktarvy from the beginning of this year. Everything was fine until September. In September, I started having problems with my intestine and pancreas. my stomach ached in the area of the pancreas. It was hard to go to the toilet. I was prescribe Creon. I felt weak. After 2 weeks< the problems disappead. The only positive thing I see is that the cells og CD 4 started to grow.

Hello my dear I am not on the medication you are on but I do suffer from stomach problems that has put me in the AIDS category with wasting. This is a serious problem and it should not happen too frequently. If it does like our brother John advises, please talk to your doctor. Nutrients in the body are very very important to keep us healthy ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏

Hi Julie. My current medicines are not causing diarrhea, so it may be a case of switching to a different drug, especially as you are getting the loose stool at inconvenient times. Or you could take 2 Immodium tablets when the loose stool occurs, and if you still have loose stool, take a further 2 Immodium tablets.

Julie Hi! @A myHIVteam Member
Make sure to discuss with your HIV specialist about considering alternative treatment options, like the single-dose antiretroviral therapy (ART), which may offer a substitute for the daily medication regimen. Wishing you the best in your health journey!
