They would have to be positive been on and then not on meds to cause their HIV to mutate then they can transmit a mutated version of HIV and your meds would also then not work. A geno and pheno type test would need to be done to see what meds you could take post exposure. Our HIV meds do NOT prevent re-exposure to others mutated HIV.

HIV gay positive men and now even HIV negative men on PREP have been barebacking and exchanging sperm for years. There has been a lot of controversy about the super strain of which there have been minimal cases reported. This is a very personal decision. Personally myself I do not look forward to receiving another strain of HIV since I'm already dealing with the HIV-1 strain myself. Unless you know the strain of your partner whom you're having sex with it's probably more than likely if you're a single man and active that you have at one point received the HIV-1 and HIV 2 strain.
