Here on my HIV team, we have had members for as long as 5 to 7 years. Unfortunately through the years ,some of the members have passed and gone on. During these hard times , it's invaluable to have someone whom you can call if you need help or a medical emergency.

Members explored the idea of creating an emergency contact list within the community, recognizing that many live alone, are estranged from family, or hesitate to burden loved ones with health concerns. Several members shared their current emergency plans, including designated family contacts, medical powers of attorney, living wills, DNR/DNI orders, medical alert bracelets, and keeping important documents with their primary care doctors. A recurring theme was the desire for community connection and mutual support, with many expressing interest in having fellow members as backup contacts who could check in if someone suddenly stopped posting or needed help, though the practical details of how to safely organize and maintain such a list remained an open question.

No, unfortunately, I don't have an emergency contact person. I'm estranged from my family. As far as my kids, I don't want to burden them with anything, that's why I don't have them listed as emergency contacts.

Have you thought of anything?
If this is something that we want to do, I suppose we should see how many are interested before proceeding?

I just requested a medical bracelet because I suffer from thyroid and pituitary disease. I can faint so I need to carry hydrocortisone on me at all times.

Yes this is a great idea. You guys are a great support to me on here. I would welcome a call or email if I suddenly stopped posting for awhile.

I have 2 people for my emergency contact list.
Now the idea of having a team member as emergency contact is not a bad idea with some caveats namely trust and location
