Undectable
A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

As per my last post thanks for all the great responses. I feel so much better I’m in the green zone. However lots of questions on what truly is undectable. So many different opinions even from doctors. We know the tests are getting more sensitive on viral load and soon I’m assuming that under 10 will be the new normal than the current under 20. With that being said does a 200 viral load considered to be worse then 100? Does under 20 mean better then 40? And So on and so on.or it’s all relative… read more

I'm not sure I really understand your question Brad, but I can say that, yes, I always feel better knowing, hearing that I am undetectable. However, I have learned over the years that if I have a blip, usually when I switch drugs, it's not something I concern myself with too much because experience has taught me it has always gone back down to undetectable.

I do believe that there was another post on here in the past where we all concluded that under 200 could be considered undetectable, despite the more sensitive, advanced testing methods.

Interesting Brad3 this test is done by a machine in a lab. QuestLabs does mine and they can test down to 20. I like quest because I can log in at anytime and pull my results. They also keep track of your test so you can see a graph of your counts overtime. Results will vary from lab to lab so stick with one. For viral load you are looking for HIV 1 RNA, QN PCR not % CD4.

I will say this respectfully
Even if you are undetectable; the diagnosis of HIV remains. The numbers mean how well your body is responding to the medication. In your case the medication is working and that’s the bottom line. ♥️

@A myHIVteam Member, at 200 copies per milliliter, no matter what test they use, that is called viral suppression. That is the standard, worldwide number.
All of the other numbers, less than 100, less than 75, less than 50, less than 40, less than 20, these test are not looking for suppression, they are looking for how many actual virus there is.
I hope this helps.
